A murder/suicide
HENNEPIN — The investigation continues into an apparent murder/suicide in Putnam County.
On Tuesday, Putnam County Sheriff Kevin Doyle said the investigation into the deaths of James Price, 73, and his wife, Darlene Price, 83, will remain open until all toxicology reports and final interviews are completed. However, there are no signs pointing at this time to anything other than a murder/suicide. This is an isolated incident, Doyle said.
In giving the background to the incident, Doyle said the Putnam County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, of an unresponsive subject at 112 S. 11th St., Hennepin. Upon arrival, deputes found James and Darlene Price dead in the kitchen area of their home.
The sheriff said Darlene Price had received a single gunshot wound from James Price. James Price died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both subjects were pronounced dead at 7:36 p.m. by the Putnam County Death Investigator/Coroner Bob Cofoid.
Autopsy results were completed, and toxicology reports are pending, Doyle said.
On Tuesday morning, Cofoid said no inquest is planned into the deaths.
Assisting the Putnam County Sheriff's Department at the scene, in addition to Cofoid, were Hennepin First Responders, the Mark Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
