In re: Ms. Thompson’s letter - Illinois State Song.

As a senior citizen who went to school in the ‘50s, thought you might like to know that we went on our eighth-grade class trip to someplace educational, rather than the entertainment venues they often choose these days, if they are able to go at all.

Our class earned all the money for the trip, and we went to Springfield — visited the Capitol and Lincoln sites — home, tomb, New Salem, Vandalia Court House. We also toured Dickenson Mounds at Lewiston.

Brochures from the Capitol included the Illinois Constitution and in the back of the little booklet were the words and music to our state song, “Illinois.” Went home and learned it. Like you, it was totally new to me at that point. It’s a beautiful song. I have hard that song used as the theme music for an early-morning agricultural show on WZOE.

It can be found on the Internet by searching for Illinois State song.
