Father VerHoye to be honored Saturday

ATKINSON — Father Gerard VerHoye, pastor emeritus of St. Anthony’s Parish in Atkinson, will be honored on the occasion of his 62 years of ordination to the priesthood of Jesus Christ and his 90th birthday at a parish reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to join Father VerHoye for sandwiches, birthday cake and ice cream at St. Anthony Parish Center, 204 W. Main St., Atkinson.

Father VerHoye served St. Anthony’s for a total 21 years, first as parochial vicar from 1949 until 1954 and then as pastor from 1976 until his appointment to senior priest status in 1992. He has lived in Atkinson since his retirement. He remains active as a senior priest in the parish and playing his favorite sport, Rolle Bolle.
