Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Schwind of Walnut will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from noon to 3 p.m. April 14 at the Walnut Community Center in Walnut. The event will be hosted their daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Henrikson.

Rodger Schwind and the former Barbara Skaer were married April 14, 1962, at the San Marino Community Church in San Marino, Calif. They are the parents of three children, Philip Schwind of Upland, Calif., Karen Schwind Henrikson of Walnut and David Schwind, former lieutenant commander of the U.S. Navy, now in Vacaville, Calif. They also have 19 grandchildren.

Rodger was employed at Baldwin Stocker Elementary school in Arcadia, Calif., as a fifth-grade teacher for 30 years until his retirement in 1995. He has been involved with Boy Scouts of America for more than 40 years, and was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1995. Barbara was also an elementary school teacher in Covina, Calif., then a showroom manager at the Los Angeles Gift Mart until she retired to the fulfilling position of full-time mom and homemaker.

The couple were longtime committed and active members of Sierra Madre Congregational Church in California. They finally “retired” to Walnut in 2002 to help out their daughter and six grandchildren.

All family and friends are invited to attend the open house. Cards and acknowledgements can be sent to 112 Clark St., Walnut, IL 61376,
