Joann Prostko

SPRING VALLEY — Joann Prostko, 53, of 212 W. Iowa St., Spring Valley, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, at her home after an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 11, 1959, in Spring Valley to Joseph and Rose M. (Molinoski) Prostko.

She was a surgical nurse at Rush University Hospital and Loyola University Hospital, both in Chicago. She was a 1977 graduate of Hall High School and a 1979 graduate of Illinois Valley Community College. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lewis University and then in 1990 graduated from Dominican University with a Master of Business Administration.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Spring Valley and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses.

Surviving are her mother, Rose Prostko of Spring Valley; one brother, Joseph (Julie) Prostko of Tonica; one sister, Laurie (Jack) Spellman of Chicago; and three nieces, Lynn, Beth and Stephanie Prostko, all of Tonica.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Prostko.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Spring Valley, with the Rev. Robert Spilman officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
