LASALLE — The Hegeler Carus Foundation’s Music at the Mansion series will present the Northwestern Strings at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Northwestern University Northwestern Strings are a group of violinists between the ages of 13 and 17 who perform as soloists and as an ensemble under the direction of Stacia Spencer.
Their repertoire includes the music of Bach, Brahms, Bartok, Kreisler, Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Telemann, Paganini, Wieniawski among others as well as contemporary composers.
The group performs yearly for the “Welcome Yule” series at Symphony Center, “Music at the Mansion” at the Hegeler Carus Mansion, Music Academy Concerts in Lutkin and Regenstein Halls as well as collaborations with Indiana University, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Peabody Preparatory academy strings.
The Northwestern Strings have made several successful European tours in France and Italy where they were enthusiastically embraced. They have performed in the famous cathedrals of Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice and in the Stradivarius museum in Cremona.
Admission to the concert is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. The Hegeler Carus Mansion is located at 1307 Seventh St. in LaSalle.
Seating is limited for events held inside the Hegeler Carus Mansion. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes early to insure seating is available. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to lectures and concerts. Young children are not recommended to attend lectures/concerts inside the Hegeler Carus Mansion unless otherwise noted.
