SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley Elementary School District will hold its annual preschool screenings May 23-25, for children who are 3 years old by Sept. 1 and who are not yet in kindergarten. The screenings will be held at Lincoln School, and the majority of the classrooms will be filled from this screening.
The purpose of the screening is to provide information on how a child uses his or her body (motor skills), knowledge of basic concepts like counting and colors (conceptual skills) and use of language.
Vision and hearing screenings will also be done.
This information can help identify if the child’s skills are appropriate for his or her age. It will also help plan the child’s education and, if necessary, begin to look at any special needs the child may have at home or in the school setting.
Contact Lincoln School to schedule an appointment for your child to be screened.
If your child is under the age of 3, you can request a screening instrument called the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, which can be completed by parents at home and mailed in for scoring. To request a copy of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, contact Penny Jo Redshaw at 815-663-5631.
