PRINCETON — Today, Thursday, at the Princeton Public Library, the BMP Special Education Co-op will meet at 1 p.m.; the Friends Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. to discuss “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver; and the Tiskilwa Garden Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. with Ann Dittmer of Annie’s Little Pots hosting a workshop.
On Friday, Magic the Gathering will meet at 3 p.m., and the Art Show Opening Reception will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Pastors Wives will meet at 9:30 a.m.
On Monday, Princeton Youth Football will meet at 6:30 p.m., and the Monday Night Movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m., and is about an English rake who appears to be untouched by his years of debauchery and evil living, but while his face retains its youth, his portrait changes, growing more hideous with every vicious deed.
On Tuesday, the preschool story hour will be held at 10:30 a.m., and the theme is caterpillars. All area preschoolers and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. Also, the Citizens New Direction Group will meet at 9 a.m.; Experience Works will meet at 1 p.m.; WUNT will meet at 6:30 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m., Talk About: Transforming Media ... Books and Information Becomes Interactive video presentation will be held.
On Wednesday, the Princeton Public Library Board will meet at 7 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.
On April 19, the Bureau County Retired Teachers will meet at 11 a.m.; the ITC Committee will meet at 4 p.m.; and the Quilters Guild will meet at 7 p.m.
TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Public Library’s book club will begin again on Monday. “So Brave, Young and Handsome” by Leif Enger will be discussed.
The library is selling tickets for “Making Dreams Come True,” an embroidered quilt made by 17 local quilt artists. Tickets are available through June.
SPRING VALLEY — Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library, is offering a Rules of the Road review course for anyone in the area. The course is free. The purpose of the course is to help participant pass the Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. The course prepares applicants for the written and driving examinations, and also provides information on the vision screening. The course will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. April 20. In honor of National Library Week and the 100th anniversary of Spring Valley’s Carnegie Library building, the library, in conjunction with Angelo’s Restaurant in Spring Valley will hold a Pizza Week. Proceeds from the purchase of any 14-inch cheese or cheese and pepperoni pizza from Angelo’s during the week of April 11-15 will benefit the library. Tickets may be purchased at the library or the restaurant for $8 to cover the cost of one 14-inch pizza, dine-in or carry-out. For more information, call 815-663-4741.
Also, the library is celebrating National Library Week by asking patrons to return any overdue items to the library, and they will be charged nothing, providing the items are in good condition. The library will accept overdue items through April 21 without charging any late fees. Items may be dropped off in the drop box on the west side of the library or by bringing items inside.
WYANET — Last month Kathy O’Malley had all gardeners enthralled with her Top 10 Gardening Tips. This month, the Raymond A. Sapp Library’s 2nd Thursday@the Library program will bring music to the halls ... well, rooms ... of the library today, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. Local musician Dave Tarnowski and “friends” will treat the library patrons to some great tunes. It is always fun to see who belongs to Dave’s friends group. Refreshments will be served.
The Computer Class will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Dorene Stalter will be there to answer your questions.
The Book Group will meet at 7 p.m. April 26 to discuss Walter Mosley’s book “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” a novel about aging, memory and family. The public is invited to read and discuss the current novel.
MINERAL — The Mineral-Gold Library will be celebrating National Library Week (April 9-14) with refreshments, guessing jars and a coloring contest. Stop in and see us and guess the candy jars, enter the coloring contest to receive a free paper back book. Also check out some of our new titles while enjoying a cookie.
BUDA — The Mason Memorial Public Library is working on something special for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Be sure to come to the library and check it out!
WALNUT — Jan Pistole will present a program at the Walnut Public Library at 6:30 p.m. April 25 about Walnut’s Little Treasure “Sunset Ridge MX Race Track.”
LAMOILLE — The summer reading kick-off at the LaMoille-Clarion Public Library will be held June 5. Magic by Cory will be there to get the “Reading is Sooooo Delicious” summer off to a great start!
LADD — Preschool story times are held at the Ladd Public Library at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. Programs are designed for 2 to 5 year olds with a parent or guardian. Information on these, and all library programs, may be found at www.laddlibrary.com or on Facebook.
LASALLE — Join the LaSalle Public Library for a look at “The People’s Friend: Westclox 1938” at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Go back in time to 1938, and take an historic, behind-the-scenes look at Westclox, and the production of all manner of clocks – from wind-up table clocks and tiny wristwatches to electric wall clocks and alarm clocks. Located in LaSalle/Peru, Westclox employed thousands of area residents, who produced clocks for a huge domestic market — one valued at $40 million in 1938, as well as markets worldwide. The People’s Friend captures the pride and ability of Westclox workers, the innovations and scope of the company, and the quality and extensive variety of the timepieces produced by Westclox in one small, Illinois town. This program is free and open to the public. This program is part of “The Way We Worked” a Smithsonian Exhibit made possible by the Illinois Humanities Council and Canal Corridor Association.
