Sarah Vaughn

MARYVILLE — Sarah M. Vaughn, 87, passed away at 11:58 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Oxford, Miss., to Sam and Rosie (Kizer) Renfrow. She married James W. Smith in 1939. She later married Woodrow W. Jones in 1952. She then married Louis E. Vaughn in December 1966. They all preceded her in death.

She worked for Olin Corp. for 11 years as a header operator. She was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge and the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Surviving are one daughter, Kay Smith Blakeslee of Spring Valley; two sons, David H. Smith of Hartford and Steven E. Jones of Fieldon; four grandchildren, Sheila Clements, Maryann Smith, Jennifer Smith and Amanda Jones Whitt; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan McNab and Nadia Msakni.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Odell Renfrow; and seven sisters, Connie Johnson, Ollie Tyner, Velma Bryant, Lena Renfrow, Jamie Denton, Keron Landon and Viola Renfrow.

Visitation and services were held Thursday at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, with the Revs. David Stratman and David Denton officiating. Burial was in the cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.
