Using the Timeline Gallery mirror, 9-year-old Carli Wright of rural Tiskilwa recently tried on some vintage headgear from the hat basket at Tiskilwa’s Museum on Main. Seems to suit her “to a T.”

TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Historical Society will host an afternoon tea, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, to feature the spring exhibit “Hang onto Your Hats!” displayed by Wanda Sims at the Museum on Main.

The main galleries of the museum will be all decked out with extra tables of finery, finger food, and spring flowers. Everyone is welcome to come down and join in the fun by wearing a hat that someone in the family saved for reasons unknown. Some might even want to share a little story about the hat’s origins.

While guests enjoy sandwiches and sweets, Wanda will share a few stories about her hat collection, which she started almost 20 years ago. Over time, Tiskilwa folks have given her hats and Wanda has found special hats at occasional estate sales. Her nostalgic and whimsical collection now includes more than 50 hats once belonging to current and long-ago Tiskilwa residents.

The historical society’s upcoming “second-Monday-night” program will feature a road trip on May 14 to enjoy the antique collection of Harold and Marge Steele, just outside of Dover. Anyone wishing to carpool may meet at the Museum at 6:30 p.m.
