PRINCETON — The Princeton Park District and Easter Seals of LaSalle and Bureau Counties are partnering together to hold a half-marathon, walk and kiddie fun run on April 28. The event will begin with packet pick up at 7:30 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. start time for the race.

The half-marathon will begin and end at Zearing Park in Princeton. The rest of the course will wind through the country around Tiskilwa and will be mostly on the road, with a portion on the canal bike path. This route includes hills. The course is USATF certified. The cost for the half marathon is $40 before race day or $50 on race day. People pre-registered for the half-marathon will receive a race T-shirt.

In addition to the half-marathon, the event will include a walk to support Easter Seals. The Walk to Support Easter Seals is one lap around Zearing Park, approximately 1.75 miles and begins at 9:30 a.m. Although there is no set registration fee for the walk, participants are asked to make a donation to Easter Seals.

Children will also have another opportunity to participate with a one lap kiddie fun run to be held around the south pond at Zearing Park. This run is open to children ages 5-12, and will begin at 10:30 a.m. There is no registration fee for this event.

Participants may register for any of the three events on line at In addition, event applications are available online at and can be turned in to either Bureau County Metro Center, 837 Park Ave. West, Princeton, or Easter Seals, 1013 Adams St., Ottawa.

In addition, there will be food available at the event, as well as bounce houses for the kids and possibly other family activities.

Baseball, softball clinic

PRINCETON — In conjunction with the half-marathon, the Players Edge will be holding a baseball/softball clinic on race day with third- through fifth-grade boys and girls from noon and 1:30 p.m. and Grades 6-8 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. all held at Zearing Park.

Cost for the clinic is $20 made payable to the Players Edge. Payment can be made the day of the event, however, you must register in advance at the Bureau County Metro Center or call 815-872-0840.

All-Star wrestling

PRINCETON —The Easter Seals of LaSalle and Bureau Counties will also host a professional wrestling event on April 28 at the Bureau County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 4 p.m. with a 5 p.m. bell time, featuring “Frankie the Chi-Town Hitman” Wolsfeld and a host of all-star wrestlers.

PHS volleyball camp

PRINCETON — Andy Puck has announced his dates for the Princeton High School volleyball camp, to be held June 18-21 at Prouty Gym for incoming Grades 4-12. Cost is $65 or $50 per athlete, if more than one from a family. Registration forms are available at PHS main office.

BFA meeting

LASALLE — The Better Fishing Association of Northern Illinois will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the V.F.W. Post 4668 Hall, located at 24th and Donohue streets in LaSalle. On the agenda will be the final planning for the May 19th Kid’s Fishing Expo at Baker Lake.

BFA board members will meet at 6 p.m. prior to the regular meeting. As usual the admissions is free and door prizes will be awarded at the end of the meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Spring Creek Junior Golf Program

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Creek’s 2012 Junior Golf Program begins with a complimentary clinic at noon on May 5. Pre-registration is requested.

A junior golf camp of all skill levels for ages 6-11 and 12-18 will be held five dates in May. Fees are $80. There are six age divisions — 6-8 (five holes), 9-11 (shortened nine holes), 12-13 and 14-17 (nine regulation holes) — for the junior golf league, which will be held June 18, June 22, June 29, July 6 and July 13.

Spring Creek will host the Independent Insurance Agents Tournament on Jun. 15, the Illinois Valley Junior Golf Championship July 25 and the Junior Member Tournament July 31.
