Mineral landmark comes tumbling down

MINERAL — A piece of Mineral’s historic landscape is coming down.

On Tuesday, Don King, owner of Michlig Grain, said the old Mineral Elevator demolition project began Saturday with the tearing down of the old wooden elevator house, located along Route 6 on the east edge of the village. King estimated the elevator house to be about 90 years old and standing about 80 feet tall.

King said Ag Fab of Wisconsin did the demolition work on Saturday, starting with the digging of a big hole about eight feet deep, to the west of the elevator house. In about 20-30 minutes, two wreckers had pushed the old structure into the hole.
