Cookout planned

WYANET — The Wyanet United Methodist Church will host a cookout from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wyanet Locker. The menu will include rib eyes, butterfly chops, brats, pork burgers, hot dogs and chips.

Free screenings

PRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton will offer a free blood pressure and blood sugar screen on Tuesday. Screens are open to the public and will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the main lobby at the hospital. Those wishing to have their blood sugar checked should fast 12 hours before the screen.

GED graduates

OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College’s Adult Education program will honor its General Educational Development (GED) graduates at 7 p.m. May 21 in the IVCC Gymnasium. Invitations have been sent to all recent GED graduates. However, any GED graduate who has not received an invitation or who has not participated in a past ceremony and would like to take part this year should call IVCC’s Adult Education program at 815-224-0345 by May 11. Friends and family are welcome.

Healthy Kids’ Camp

SPRING VALLEY — An informative meeting and sign up for the “Healthy Kids’ Camp” event in June and July will be from 4 to 5 p.m. May 10 and from 8 to 9 a.m. May 19 in St. Margaret’s Hospital lower lobby. St. Margaret’s, along with Illinois Valley Community College and the University of Illinois Extension, will host a free “Healthy Kids’ Camp” at Kirby Park in Spring Valley for children in kindergarten through eighth grade (as of fall 2012). The two-week camp will be from 9 to 11 a.m. July 16-20 and July 23-27. For more information, call 815-664-1440.

Support group

PRINCETON — Bureau Valley Volunteer Hospice will host its monthly grief and loss support group at 2:30 p.m. May 15 in the chapel at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Anyone that has lost a loved one is invited to attend.

Plant sale

SPRING VALLEY — St. Margaret’s Auxiliary will hold a spring plant sale in the lower lobby of the hospital from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. There will be selections of annuals available from Mid-America Growers and perennials from Hornbaker Gardens. The public is invited to attend. Book club

PRINCETON — The First Lutheran Church of Princeton Christian Book Club will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church library at 116 N. Pleasant St. in Princeton. This month’s selection is “Pilgrim’s Progres” by John Bunyan. The June selection will be “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. For more information, call the church office at 815-0875-1685.
