CHERRY — John F. Beatty, 78, of Cherry passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at Pleasant View in Ottawa.

Mr. Beatty was born April 29, 1934, in Princeton to Lester and Clara (Powell) Beatty. He married Dolores Lukachko on Sept. 14, 1957, at the Mendota United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death in 1992.

Mr. Beatty was a graduate of LaMoille High School and the University of Illinois. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the end of the Korean War. He was a member of the Mendota United Methodist Church, University of Illinois Acacia Fraternity, University of Illinois Alumni Association, Bureau County Farm Bureau and the American Philatelic Society. He was a life-long farmer and belonged to the Ladd Elevator Board of Directors for 17 years. John spent many nights enjoying horse racing with his friends. He was an avid postcard and stamp collector and enjoyed attending auctions in the local area.
