Cookout planned

PRINCETON — The Princeton Veterans Group will hold a cookout from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan’s in Princeton. The menu will include brats, hot dogs, pork chops, chips and sodas.

Meeting set

WYANET — The Wyanet Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Historical Hall.

Woodcrafters meeting

PRINCETON — Woodcrafters Unlimited will meet Thursday at the Bureau County Senior Center, 16 W. Marion St. in Princeton. Show and tell will start at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. This month’s program will feature members Jackie Davis and Carol Bird, who tell about their trip to the North Country Woodshop School in Minnesota where they learned all about the basics of woodworking and the building of various items. Anyone interested in woodworking is invited to attend. For more information, call 815-442-8454.

Volunteer open house

PRINCETON — The Bureau County American Red Cross will hold a volunteer open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Red Cross office, 435 Main St., Princeton.

Oktoberfest planned

PRINCETON — The First United Methodist Church of Princeton, 316 S. Church St., will hold its Oktoberfest at 2 p.m. Sept. 30. Those attending will enjoy brats, hot dogs, German potato salad, root beer and desserts. There will also be games for both adults and children. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the FUMC mission team’s 2013 trip to Frakes, Ky.
