Manlius Village Board 8-7

MANLIUS — The Manlius Village Board took action on the following items at its meeting Aug. 7:

• Approved the payment of bills with the exception of the Kurt Geldean excavating bill. The bill is being checked by Village Engineer Jack Kusek. There was a problem of there being no hook-up where there was supposed to be according to the blueprints.

• Heard the back-up generator – gas regulator would be installed soon. Kusek suggested a manual trip transfer switch for the generator.

• Heard the village has received approval to proceed with the street project as proposed months ago to District 3 IDOT. A bid date was set for Aug. 21, and a special meeting set for Aug. 22 to award the bid for the roads. There is still time to complete the project, but any additional delays could cause issues.

• Tabled the resolution for sidewalk repair and payment until the September meeting due to lack of board members.

• Heard the new Manlius website is up and running thanks to Joe Hunt. Hunt said he is still adding new things to it regularly, and the site has already had 1,700 hits.

• Asked Kusek to look into the trouble at the park with the electricity at the shelter.

• Heard Manlius Day was a success. The parade had twice the entries this year, and $2,200 was raised for the Manlius Community Club to use for Lunch with Santa, Easter Egg Hunt, etc. The only comment made was that more volunteers are needed to help during the day.

• Approved a motion to waive the $159 fee for one of the residents on the 90-day arrears and over $200 water department list.

• Directed Kusek to get a bid package together for the tower for September. The water tower inspection was done, and action should be taken because the cost will increase if the board waits any longer. The estimated cost is $34,500. The bids will also include outside maintenance which would cost extra but needs to be done.

• Heard presentations from HD Supply Waterworks and Ferguson Waterworks for new water meters for the village. Action was tabled until September when more board members are in attendance.

• Tabled a request from Tammy Benson to reinstate a third liquor license for the town. Benson also asked to have her $500 hook-up fee waived, since she just bought the property. Village President Gene Menard said she didn’t qualify, since that program was only through Oct. 15, 2011.

• Tabled village hall landscaping to the September meeting.

• Heard the stop sign requirement review was done. No action was taken.

• Tabled discussion on the gambling machines until the September meeting.

• Heard the Bureau Valley School District will receive about $21,900 from the village from the TIF fund for property tax paid in 2012.

• Heard the village can’t get rid of its records unless it hires the state to come in to say what must be kept and what can be gotten rid of. The board will discuss new storage options at the September meeting.

• Heard auditor Wilcoxson & Associates will be at the September meeting to go over the audit though April 30.

• Heard an insurance claim was started on the water tower, which was struck by lightning.
