Grand jury returns four indictments
PRINCETON — A Bureau County grand jury considered the following cases when it met Sept. 11 in the Bureau County Courthouse in Princeton:
• Jake Hartweg, 22, of Sheffield was indicted for the Class 2 felony of aggravated battery. He is accused of causing bodily harm on Aug. 19 to a Bureau County deputy acting in his official capacity. Deputy Chad Hall testified before the grand jury. Hartweg is free from custody, having posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond.
• Wendell Bankers, 22, of St. Louis, Mo., was indicted for the Class 2 felony of auto theft. He is accused of possessing a vehicle stolen from Lu Jack’s Chevrolet in Davenport, Iowa, on Aug. 27. Ladd Police Chief William Gaefcke testified before the grand jury. Bankers is in custody with bond set at $20,000.
• Nakia S. Nielsen, 34, of Dehli, La., was indicted for the Class 3 felony of aggravated battery. He is accused of causing bodily harm to a Princeton man with a deadly weapon, a knife, on Sept. 4. Princeton Police Officer Chris Erickson testified before the grand jury. Nielsen is currently in custody with bond set at $30,000.
• There was one suppressed case.
The cases were presented to the grand jury by Bureau County State’s Attorney Patrick Herrmann, First Assistant State’s Attorney Anthony Sciuto and Assistant State’s Attorney Daniel Anderson.
All indictments were returned before Associate Circuit Judge C.J. Hollerich.
