Jeno Bonucchi

He was born on March 20, 1918, in Granville to Bartol and Luigia (Biolchini) Bonucchi. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in India during World War II as an aircraft electrician with the rank of master sergeant.

He married Margaret Tulini on April 25, 1945. Together they owned and operated the Royal Blue Store in Granville for 40 years. Jeno was an active volunteer to his community and his church. He has served as the president of the Granville Business Association, was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion, and served twice as the post commander of the Legion. He was the proud “Sausage Maker” for many community events. He was a charter member of the Granville Rotary and had perfect attendance for 44 years while serving as their treasurer for over 20 years. He was a past president of the Putnam County Achievement Service. He served on the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging and received their Ageless Achiever Award in 1983 for his volunteer accomplishments. He is a past president of the Holy Name Society and served as their treasurer for over 40 years. He was a trustee of the Sacred Heart Church for 35 years. He received the Pere Marquette Award in 2003 along with his wife, Margaret. He has served as treasurer for both the Putnam County Senior Citizens and the Putnam County Housing Authority. He was on the Board of Directors for the Granville Telephone Company from 1948 until 1965.

Jeno is survived by his wife and twin daughters, Nancy (Jim) Carlson of Princeton and Carol (Ken) Unes of East Peoria, as well as two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert; and one sister, Alvira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granville at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with Father Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Granville, with military honors.
