Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White, the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Center for the Book are pleased to provide information about Letters about Literature 2013.

Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing program that invites students in Grades 4 – 10 to read a book, reflect on it and write a letter to the author letting the author know how the book changed their life or their view of the world. There are three writing levels for Letters About Literature – Level I (Grades 4 through 6), Level II (Grades 7 and 8) and Level III (Grades 9 and 10). The deadline to enter the competition is Jan. 11, 2013.

PRINCETON — An After-School Craft Day will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Princeton Public Library; and the Republican Women’s Candidate Night will be held at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Princeton Theater Group will meet at 9 a.m.

Sunday through Oct. 6 is Banned Books Week. Banned Books Weed is celebrating 30 years this year with the theme Virtual Read-Out.

The Monday Night Movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. See the world from a kid’s eye view in this modern fairy tale that mixes hilarious humor with the magical message of love. This super-smart little girl, who is woefully misunderstood by her parents, brother, and a cruel school principal, discovers she doesn’t have to get mad to get even.

On Tuesday, the Preschool Story Hour will be held, with the theme of fire prevention and music with Miss Cheryl. All area preschoolers and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. Also, WUNT will meet at 6:30 p.m.; and Talk About: Virtual Read Out: for Banned Books Week. The public is invited to read or attend to listen and the video will be sent in for a Virtual Read Out Program. The Lions Club Board will meet at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Crafters Club will meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and a Richard Widmark movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m.
