LASALLE — Join the LaSalle Public Library at 1 p.m. Saturday for the return of classical guitarist Peter Fletcher. Fletcher’s upcoming concert will offer a combination of standard classical guitar pieces, new music from composers and transcriptions from other instruments, such as the piano. Some of his repertoire will include J. S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” from Cantata No. 147 and “Chaconne in D minor,” two pieces from Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” Francisco Tarrega’s “Recuerdos de la Alhambra,” “Koyunbaba” by composer/guitarist Carlo Domeniconi and selections from Spanish composer Joaquin Turina. The second half of his program will feature selections he has transcribed from pianist Edvard Grieg, which will be released on a CD by Centaur Records in 2013. Fletcher began guitar study at the age of 7 under classical guitar instructor John Sutherland. In December 1983, he made his formal debut at the age of 15 under the auspices of The Brasstown Concert Association in North Carolina. Fletcher furthered his studies in Master Classes with David Leisner, David Russell, Oscar Ghiglia and Pepe Romero. He has performed on NPR In 1990, the Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA) awarded Fletcher a prize at its National Level Competition, and in 1995 he received the Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music under Nicholas Goluses and was twice the recipient of an Eastman Graduate Award. In demand as a performer in cultural venues throughout the country, Fletcher has been invited to give recitals at the George Eastman House in Rochester, N.Y.; Cincinnati’s Memorial Hall; St. Philip Cathedral in Atlanta; Furman University in Greenville, S.C.; the Chicago Cultural Center; and many others. He made his New York debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in February 2007 and returned in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 to a completely sold-out house.
