DIXON – A Chadwick company is moving to Dixon and bringing 70 employees – and plans to hire about 30 more.
Sewer Equipment Co. of America announced Monday that it will move to the former Johnson Controls site at 1590 Dutch Road, which it bought from Johnson for $1.7 million.
The company, in Chadwick more than 20 years, makes sewer and drain-cleaning equipment, vacuum trucks and trailers. It is the parent company of Mongoose Jetters and Ram Vac.
The Johnson Controls building has been vacant for three years, said John Thompson, president of Dixon Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We’re very happy to have this happen,” Thompson said.
The 125,000-square-foot building is bigger than its Chadwick facility and will double its amount of production floor space, said John Wichmann, vice president of production.
What also made Dixon an attractive place to relocate, Wichmann said, is the “ability to hire professional folks” for engineering, purchasing, accounting and customer service positions.
The company made a deal with the state in which it is getting a 10-year tax credit worth about $800,000 in exchange for hiring and retaining a certain number of employees. However, the company is set to hire 50 percent more employees since that estimate, he said.
The company expects to start moving in 45 days and be fully operating in Dixon by the second quarter of next year. No immediate renovations are planned.
“We’re so pleased to have a large, industrial facility coming and providing jobs once again,” Dixon Mayor Jim Burke said.
