The older he gets, the faster he goes.
LaMoille Formulee Vee racer Hal Adkins, 62, claimed the Midwestern Council Formula Vee fastest lap record at Blackhawk Farms Raceway near Rockton. He set it six times during the race with the ultimately fastest lap (1:21.765) on the last lap of the race over a faster class of car. The old lap record was 1:22.326.
“I have been trying to get this done for a long time,” Adkins said, emphasizing the word long. The racing photographer won the Vee race lapping all the other cars other than the second-place car that ultimately came in second, and set the fastest lap of the race over a faster class of car. Adkins already holds lap records at Milwaukee Mile with Midwestern Council (MC) and Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), the Autobahn Country Club, both the North and South tracks with MC. He said he’s still working on the record for Road America in Wisconsin.
“I’m gonna be 63 in October but still getting faster,” he said.
His car is a 2000; he’s a 1949 model who’s parts are becoming harder and harder to find these days.
