Shooting for a gun range in Spring Valley
SPRING VALLEY — The developers of a gun range in the city of Spring Valley are shooting for opening their doors by the end of next spring.
“We’re going to try and put together an ordinance,” Mayor Cliff Banks said.
City council members discussed the range at this week’s meeting. Before the range can be established, the city would have to change at least one and potentially several ordinances involving everything from noise to gun possession.
A location for the range hasn’t been chosen, but some officials believe the business would make a welcome fit to the city’s outdoors themes. The city is examining what other municipalities with gun ranges have done about their ordinances and concerns.
“It’s in the attorney’s hands,” Banks said.
In other business, the council also voted to increase the yearly salary for the city’s economic development director to $32,500, effective Oct. 1, for 25 hours per week of work.
