Two arrested on drug charge

At approximately 2 a.m. Sept. 26, Illinois State Police were conducting routine patrols near Interstate 80 eastbound, Mile Marker 72, when a vehicle was observed speeding.

The 2013 Chevrolet Suburban was stopped; during the traffic stop the LaSalle Police Department canine performed a free air sniff of the vehicle exterior and gave a positive alert for the odor of illegal drugs. A probable cause search was conducted which revealed three duffle bags containing 62 pounds of suspected cannabis.

Police arrested the driver, Thomas McHale, 36, of Burton, Mich., and the passenger, Timothy July, 36, of Indianapolis, Ind.
