TOULON — A missing Stark County infant was discovered off a gravel road about 12 hours after she was first reported missing.
An Amber Alert was activated Thursday morning for Mia Graci Thompson, a 3-week-old baby who was allegedly taken from the back seat of a vehicle parked in front of the Toulon Post Office.
The Amber Alert was cancelled just before 8 p.m. Thursday after she was found alive off of a gravel road near Highway 17 east of the city.
According to a WQAD News 8 report, at a news conference held just before 9 p.m., Stark County Sheriff Jimmie Dison said baby Mia’s mother, 19-year-old Kendra Meaker, was arrested in connection with the reported abduction. Dison said Meaker admitted to being the person who placed the baby on the side of the road but had not yet explained why she might have done so. He also said there was no indication that the baby’s father had anything to do with the incident.
Meaker was held in the Stark County Jail after her arrest and was scheduled to make her first appearance in Stark County Court Friday. The judge will determine what charges she may be facing in connection with the reported abduction of her 3-week-old daughter.
On Friday morning, Dison said the baby was doing “fine.”
