Youth education kick-off a success

CHERRY — St. Patrick’s in Arlington, Holy Trinity in Cherry and St. Thomas More in Dalzell began the 2012-13 youth education year with a successful and fun Youth Education Kick-off Movie Night Sept. 21 at the Holy Trinity Hall in Cherry. More than 70 people enjoyed a fun-filled evening of treats, laughs and the viewing of the movie Dr. Seuss’s “The Lorax” on a 16-foot outdoor screen.

Stewardship volunteers and youth education teachers and assistants were busy all night coordinating food, fun and fellowship. Although temperatures dipped, a few blankets and the exciting show kept everyone warm and comfortable.

Beth Wenzel, youth educations coordinator and leader of this event, said “Even I am impressed with the great start we are off to this year. It’s is great to see so many kids get involved in our youth education activities.”

Wenzel is a 2011 graduate of Ashford University with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education. She grew up in Cherry and is a lifetime member of Holy Trinity.

St. Patrick’s classes are held Sunday mornings before the 10:30 a.m. Mass. To register a child, call Ann Hunter at 815-638-2691 or email Annnjean@earthlink.net.

Holy Trinity classes are Sunday morning after the 8:30 a.m. Mass at the Holy Trinity Hall. Parents are welcome to coffee and doughnuts at Bruno’s while they wait for their child’s class to complete. To register a child, contact Beth Wenzel at 815-894-2006 on Tuesday through Friday mornings or email her at BethAtCHT@hotmail.com.

St. Thomas More classes are at 4:15 p.m. Sunday before 5:30 p.m. Mass. To register a child, contact Mary Jean Gudrick at 815-878-2063.

The classes will utilize the new and highly touted version of the Sadlier Religion “We Believe with Project Disciple” Catholic youth education series of guides, workbooks and internet tools. In addition, videos, guest speakers and field trips will be used for the first time to enhance the overall youth education classroom experience.

Wenzel wrapped up the evening by directing her team to “continue to spread the word throughout your communities and school about the availability of our classes. Remember to invite both Catholic and non-Catholic families and children to come check out what we are doing.”
