Exploring the cemetery

LeRoy Olson and Debra Baker, board members of the Wyanet Raymond A. Sapp Memorial Township Library, will lead a historical tour of the Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet starting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11. Tour participants must park their vehicles along the street, not in the cemetery. Participants are asked to meet by the cannon display at the front of the cemetery and to also bring their own flashlights. There is no charge for the tour, and it is open to the public, not just Wyanet residents. The second annual historical cemetery tour will take people to eight different gravesites, where the history of that resident will be told. Among the gravesites to be visited this year are a War of 1812 veteran, as well as the gravesite of Lilly Bergh, the first librarian at the Raymond A. Sapp Library. Also, the gravesite of LeRoy Olson’s great-great-grandfather will be visited with stories told of those early farming and ranching days when cattle were branded. Following the tour, refreshments will be served back at the cannon monument site.
