Girls tennis

At Rock Island: Princeton took fourth in Saturday’s Rock Island Gold Invitational. Rock Island kept the gold at home with 32 points followed by Rockford Auburn (31), Alleman (30) and PHS (25).

“We played with the big girls, and we played really well,” PHS coach Connie Lind said.

Top place-finisher for the Tigresses came at No. 3 doubles with Courtney Web and Emma Reidner placing second. They fell to Alleman 6-4, 6-4 in the finals after defeating Sterling Newman (6-0, 6-3) and Geneseo (4-6, 6-1, 7-5).

Makenzey Wilson placed third at No. 2 singles, defeating Alleman’s Sarah Van Hoe. She opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Newman’s Anne Vits and lost in three sets to Rock Island’s Ayala Quick, the eventual winner

PHS also took fourth at No. 1 doubles with Stephanie Blessman and Mackenzie Schafer and No. 2 doubles with Kate Morrow and Taylor Behrends. Jen O’Neil was seventh at No. 1 singles.
