Storm finish fourth at Orion

Bureau Valley placed fourth in Saturday’s Orion volleyball tournament.

The Storm went 2-1 in pool play with wins over West Carroll (21-15, 24-22) and Annawan (22-24, 21-16, 15-13) and a loss to Orion (25-15, 15-13). In tournament play, the Storm dropped matches to Riverdale (21-6, 21-14) and East Moline (23-21, 21-11) to finish 2-3 overall.

All-tournament selection Lindsey Hoffert had 35 kills and 10 points for the Storm. Other leaders for BV (6-14) were Brandi DeWaele (16 points, 9 aces, 6 kills), Danae Ross (35 digs), Heaven Bennett (16 points, 30 kills, 15 blocks), Shannon Reuter (9 points, 25 digs), Sydney Lebahn (19 points, 4 aces, 70 assists) and Whitney Forward (20 digs).

Annawan went 0-4, including losses to Orion (2-0), West Carroll (2-1) and Peoria (2-1).

At Byron: The Princeton sophomores had two wins and three ties with no losses while finishing ninth of 16 teams in Saturday’s Byron Power Classic sophomore tournament. The Tigresses split pool play with Mendota, Rockton Honenegah and Eastland, and defeated Forreston and Putnam County.

At Mendota: The Princeton freshmen placed fifth in Saturday’s Mendota Rally Tournament, defeating the host Spikers 25-20, 25-16 to take their prize. The Tigresses went 1-2 in pool play with losses to L-P (25-11, 25-12) and Newark (25-11, 25-16) and a 25-23, 25-16 win over Sandwich.

L-P beat Newark 25-11, 25-15 for the championship, and Marquette tripped Ottawa 25-14, 14-25, 25-18 for third place.
