NCI Works awards banquet held

MENDOTA — The 2012 Local Workforce Development awards banquet was held Oct. 2 at the Mendota Civic Center.

The annual event is sponsored by the North Central Illinois Works and the Chief Elected Officials for Local Workforce Investment Area 12 in LaSalle, Bureau, Putnam and Lee counties.

Awards were presented to staff and volunteers in recognition of their accomplishments and contributions to the workforce development system.

In recognition of their accomplishments and achievements leading to personal success, eight individuals were presented with individual achievement awards. The 2012 recipients were: Sara Bahena of Spring Valley, Sondra Beebe of Spring Valley, Lonny Crosby-Gulbrandsen of Marseilles, Joshua Janssen of Tiskawa, Karen Newman of Tampico, Amber Robertson of Seneca, Luz Serratos of Oglesby and Amanda Stirratt of Ottawa.

The Business Leadership Award recognized the Central Illinois Business Networking Group in Streator, HCC in Mendota and the Ottawa YMCA for demonstrated leadership and contributions to Workforce/Economic Development Activities.

Service awards were presented as follows: Illinois Valley Community College Dislocated Workers Center 10-year awards went to Monica Near and Sarah Partingon; Chief Elected Officials for a five-year award went to Marc Wilt; five-year North Central Illinois Works Board awards went to James Knauf and DeAnna Carlson, and 10-year awards went to Vicki Carlson, Deborah Madsen and Thomas Pigati.

A special recognition NCI Works Partner Award was given to associates of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) who were recently honored with state and national awards presented by the American Legion for their outstanding and distinguished services and employment opportunities for unemployed and underemployed veterans and contributing to the Economic Programs of the American Legion.

The NCI Works chairman, Linda Burt, introduced and thanked Representative Frank Mautino for his continued support of workforce development at the local level.

North Central Illinois Works (NCI Works) is a locally appointed workforce board that oversees workforce development programs that are funded by millions of federal tax dollars for a four-county area.
