Fall equine seminar series starts Nov. 1

KEWANEE — The Bureau County Farm Bureau, in conjunction with the Henry, Knox, Mercer and Stark County Farm Bureaus, and the University of Illinois Extension Units within those counties, is coordinating a series of two equine seminars coming up in November.

The series will kick off Nov. 1 with a presentation from the New Kingdom Trail Riders (NKT). NKT is part of a world-wide movement that recognizes the benefits of therapeutic riding. Therapeutic riding has been endorsed by the American Occupational Therapy Association and is being prescribed as therapy in rehabilitation hospital settings.

Everyone is invited to come and learn more about a therapeutic horseback riding program known as “Mounted Achievers” that provides an alternative type of physical therapy and rehabilitation to the mentally and physically handicapped of the Greater Quad City area and surrounding communities. Also that evening, Jennifer Fecht, Certified Equine Massage Therapist, will give a demonstration about equine massage.
