IHSA boys golf sectionals

At Belvidere North (2A)

Where: Timberpointe Golf Course, Poplar Grove.

Area school: Princeton. Others: Regional champs Maple Park Kaneland (302), Vernon Hills (316), Sterling (323), Freeport (332). Others: Richmond Burton, Grayslake Central, Wheaton Academy, Burlington Central, Genoa, Belvidere North.

Area individuals: Jaron Robinson, Mark Prescott (Mendota).

At a glance: The Tigers qualified by placing third at the Dixon regional by three strokes over Rochelle. They know they’ll have to play much better at the next level to advance to state. PHS senior Cole Evenson, who was one of two individuals to advance to sectionals last year, was glad to take his team with him this time around. “I think it feels better to go as a team because we all contribute. It’s still fun to move on, but it’s better to move on as a team,” said Evenson, who finished second at regional with a 4-over 75.

At Elgin Westminster

Christian (1A)

Where: Golf Club of Illinois, Algonquin.

Area individuals: Joey Dudek, Jaret Olson (St. Bede); Pete Mautino, Nick Scheri (Hall); Griffin Kozeal, Jake Lucas (Amboy/LaMoille).

At a glance: Bureau County sends its young guns with three sophomores and a freshman moving on. The sophomore Dudek (82) posted the second and Mautino (85), a junior, the third lowest individual scores at the Seneca Regional. The Bruins missed qualifying as a team by one stroke. Kozeal and Lucas are sophomores from LaMoille. Kozeal (88) was the third low man among individual qualifiers at Freeport; Lucas (92) was the fifth. Kozeal earned First Team Three Rivers All-Conference honors. Lucas, his classmate at LHS, carded a 92. The Golf Club of Illinois is a links style course and known for having one of the longest Par 5s in the country.

At Petersburg (1A)

Where: Shambolee Golf Course, Petersburg

Area individuals: Ryan Young (Bureau Valley).

At a glance: Young, a Three Rivers First Team All-Conference selection, punched his ticket with a 90 at Gibson Woods Golf Course, as the fifth-best individual qualifier from the Monmouth Regional.

IHSA girls Sectionals

At Champaign (1A)

Where: Stone Creek Golf Course.

Area schools: Putnam County.

Area individuals: Barbi Prokup (St. Bede), Mercedes Ruiz (DePue).

At a glance: Prokup shot a 94 on her home course at Spring Creek, fifth overall in the St. Bede Regional. PC (416) finished second as a team behind Kankakee Bishop McNamara (360).

At Lincoln (1A)

Where: Lincoln Elks Golf Course.

Area school: Princeton. Regional champs: Macomb (343). Rochester (345), Quincy Notre Dame (357), Aledo Mercer County (391). Other schools: Morton (357), Peoria Notre Dame (380), Lincoln, Lincolnwood-Raymond (411), Camp Point Central (413), Rockridge (413), Hamilton West Hancock (426).

At a glance: PHS (447) advanced by placing third at the Kewanee Regional. Freshman Arraia Hicks led the Tigresses with a 101.
