Lending a hand to Lauren

Benefit planned for former Bureau Valley grad

Friends from the surrounding communities are sponsoring a benefit on Nov. 10 for Lauren Hasbrook, a 2010 graduate of Bureau Valley High School. This benefit is to help defray the medical costs incurred when Lauren, the daughter of Terry and Jackie Hasbrook of Sheffield, underwent an emergency liver transplant on Aug. 28. Lauren was diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease in late August but not before the disease had completely destroyed her liver. Lauren was in NorthWestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for several weeks and is now home but continuing treatment.

To assist the family with their enormous medical bills, a not-for-profit group made up of friends from Buda, Wyanet, Sheffield, Walnut, Bradford and Manlius will host a meal, auction and dance on Nov. 10. All of the proceeds raised from this event will go to the Hasbrook family. The group is asking for the public’s help and generosity to make the auction a success. If you are interested in donating an item for the auction or money toward this event, please contact Arvel Barnett at 309-895-3952.

Tickets for the benefit will be $20 per person which includes dinner and a chance to win $500. Dinner will be held from 4:30 to 7:30pm at Rediger’s Auction Service in Wyanet with the live auction at 8 p.m. and then music to follow provided by Bar Stock Black. For ticket information, contact Pat Grieve by email at grieve62@yahoo.com or by phone at 309-895-4531.
