Perry Memorial Hospital eases public concerns with steroid medication

PRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton would like to calm any local concerns regarding the national reports about patients who may have received a steroid injection linked to an outbreak of a form of meningitis.

According to media information, as recently as Friday, at least 47 people nationwide had contracted fungal meningitis after receiving injections of a steroid medication which is a common treatment for back pain. The questionable steroid was custom-made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.

Perry Memorial wants to assure the public they have never purchased their steroid medications from the pharmacy in question.

Rex Conger, CEO at Perry, stated, “The hospital has received many calls from concerned patients who have recently received steroid injections at Perry. We wanted to share this information with the public in order to ease the minds of everyone in our community.”
