Princeton DAR celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution

PRINCETON — The Princeton-Illinois Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution September meeting was held Sept. 7 in the Bureau County Republican Community Room. The Chapter celebrated the 225th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, which took place Sept. 17, 1787.

Constitution Week Chapter Chairman Victoria Kapp presented the program “The Citizens’ Responsibility.” Regent Sharon Bittner led members in the opening ritual with special emphasis on the group reading of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution.

Nancy Gillfillan read the National Defense report, which was written by Bittner, placing third at National as the best letter to the editor contest. Juanita Tarrence read the President General’s message.

Welcomed were visitor Pamela Blake; prospective members Shirley Schmidt and Heather Arnold; prospective transfer member Agnes Ross and prospective reinstatement member Marie Roth.

Chaplain Lois Peterson led a memorial service for deceased members Vera Burger, past Chapter Regent Mary Davidson and Mary Olson. Family members were in attendance.

The Chapter approved the auditing committee report and budget for the new year.

Registrar Patricia Polson reported Nancy Bloomstrand, Rockford Chapter DAR is now a Princeton-Illinois Chapter DAR associate member.

The Chapter approved Conservation Chairman Diana Williamson’s presentation plans for the planting of a tree in commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution, 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, 175th anniversary of Bureau County and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Bittner reported on her trip to Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.

The Regent and past Chapter regents attended the Regent’s Club meeting in Rochelle with Evalynn Blanco presiding.

Hostesses for the day were Sharon Wilson, chairman, Judith Munn, Juanita Tarrence and Victoria Kapp.
