Lot at stake for Storm, Clippers
The way Jeff Ohlson looks at it, every game is a must-win situation every time his Bureau Valley Storm take the football field.
Friday is going to be even more so.
The BCR Game of the Week features two teams in a bounce-back mode with the Storm reeling from the sting of a 38-13 loss at the hands of the Fulton Steamers on their home turf; the Amboy/LaMoille Clippers were knocked off at home by St. Bede.
While it was the first loss for the Clippers, it dropped the Storm to 4-3, needing at least one more win during the final two weeks to become playoff eligible. The Storm closes with defending state champion Morrison (4-3) next week.
BV senior Brian Lange said the Storm knows what’s at stake.
“It’s a big game for us,” he said. “It’s kind of backs against the wall, as they say. We need to get one win for eligibility for the playoffs and hopefully two to clinch it.”
Lange said last week’s loss was a tough one, but they have to put it behind them and move on.
“We’ve got to come out fired up, execute better and get the ball in our hands and keep moving down the field and get some good scores. Just keep the enthusiasm high,” he said.
Ohlson knows the Clippers will pose many challenges.
“Amboy is a very good team that presents many challenges,” he said. “They have a lot of speed; they are very talented upfront and in the backfield; they are physical, run a variety of plays; they use multiple defenses and they are well coached.”
The Clippers need a win Friday to have the opportunity to face undefeated Sterling Newman in Week 9 and play for a share of the Big Rivers Conference championship.
