Wyanet looks at a variety of issues at Tuesday meeting
WYANET — It’s that time of year ...
During its meeting Tuesday night, the Wyanet Village Board talked about cleaning up the cemetery.
According to the board, all items, including shepherd hooks, must be removed from the grave sites no later than Nov. 6. Anything left will be removed by village workers on Nov. 7, 8 and 9.
The board also wants to remind residents that dumping of garbage behind the cemetery is not permitted. Only yard waste is allowed.
Also at the meeting, a village resident addressed the board with concerns about the village taking away garbage pick up in alleys. Village trustees explained their reasons for these changes. The village has had several complaints from residents about the garbage truck being in their yards, and also, the garbage truck is not able to pass through all of the alleys due to low hanging branches. It also saves time on the routes by not going down alleys, plus there is less wear and tear on the new garbage truck tires.
In other business, village trustee Kim Rich brought to the attention of the board that many letters were sent out notifying property owners of concerns regarding their properties such as tall grass and unlicensed vehicles. Most issues have been taken care of, but there are approximately six homeowners who have not responded to the letters. Certified letters will now be sent, and the village attorney will be contacted to see what can be done if action is not taken by the homeowner.
In other business:
• The board agreed to buy four cell phones to be used by the village president, chief of police and two village employees. The phones will replace the pagers that are currently being used. A two-year contract with Illinois Valley Cellular was approved.
• Trick-or-treat hours have been set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
• The Integrys Energy community meeting was held Tuesday evening. Approximately 25 residents attended the meeting. Wyanet residents are encouraged to vote in the election on this issue.
• In the near future, Hoerr Construction will begin a sewer project which is being funded by the CDAP grant. Sewer construction will be on Walnut Street from First Street, south.
• The bathrooms at the park will soon be getting a facelift. Bids have been received to remove the brick walls at the entrance to the bathroom, to fix the roof and to build new half walls at the entrance. The board also approved paying to have a dying oak tree removed from the cemetery and to have the chimney inspected and cleaned at the park shelter.
The next meeting of the Wyanet Village Board is at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Village Hall.
