PRINCETON — The Illinois Valley Flute Ensemble, a flute choir under the direction of Sue Gillio, will present a concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Princeton Public Library.

The Music Suite 408 studio in Peru is the “homebase” for the Illinois Valley Flute Ensemble which was established in the summer of 1991. The IVFE consists primarily of advanced high school and junior high players from the Illinois Valley and surrounding areas. Instruments in the ensemble range from piccolo to soprano, alto, and bass flutes, plus the very tall contrabass and even bigger sub-contrabass flute. Gillio says that the IVFE’s sub-contrabass flute is one of only three in the United States.

Some of the pieces included in Thursday’s program are Casper the Friendly Ghost, A Rockin’ Halloween medley with Ghostbusters, Scooby Dooby Doo and Monster Mash; Also Sprach Zarathustra; Shenandoah and more. The group has produced several recordings, including a patriotic CD, “Flute Spangled Spectacular,” recorded this past June.

All programming at the Princeton Public Library is free and open to all; the library is located at 698 E. Peru St. in Princeton.
