Jack Swanson

ASHTON — Jack M. Swanson, 90, of Ashton passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Lifehouse Liberty Court in Dixon.

Born May 23, 1922, in Princeton to Frank and Edith (Anderson) Swanson, he married Jean Allen Van Ormer of Manlius. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He then graduated from the University of Illinois. After teaching high school, he began a career spanning over 60 years as a farmer and businessman in Ashton.

Surviving are two sons, David (Grace) of Santa Ana, Calif., and Jay (Lillian) of Medfield, Mass.; five grandchildren, Eric and Danielle of Santa Ana, Calif., John and David of Medfield, Mass., and Sarah of Atlanta, Ga,; and one sister, Jean (Robert) Yates of Princeton.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Ashton Public Library, 704 N. First St., Ashton, IL 61006.

Arrangements were completed by the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon.
