DEPUE — Betty Belle Hallberg, 80, of DePue died at 8:455 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry following a courageous, year-long battle with brain cancer.
She was born Oct. 20, 1931, in DePue to Vasper Talmage Lowery and Anna Mae Harmon. She married Russell Glen Halberg Sr. Jan. 22, 1950, at the Bureau County Courthouse. He died April 13, 1993.
She worked at Westclox from 1960 to 1965, Yuvan's Supper Club in DePue from 1974 to 1979 and retired from Harper Wyman in Princeton in 1994 after 18 years. She was a member of the DePue First Congregational Church of Christ where she was president of the Women's Guild, a sponsor of Pilgrim Fellowship, superintendent of the Sunday School Junior Department and choir member. She was also a a trustee of the Selby Township Public Library in DePue, member of the DePue Booster Club and a graduate of DePue High School.
Betty will always be remembered for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and generous spirit.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky (Richard) Haywood of Granville, and Holly (Robert) Demichelis of Spring Valley; a son, Russell (LuAnn) Halberg of DePue; a brother-in-law, Bill Barnes of DePue; a sister-in-law, Shirley Lowery of Utica; four grandchildren, Tanya (Jack) Hayes, Luke (Katie) Halberg, Jarrod Halberg, and Christopher Halberg; and three great-grandchildren, Chaney Simpson, Cameron Fandel and Haylee Halberg.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carolyn Barnes and Judith Ann Lowery; and a brother, Roger Lowery.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the DePue First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pastor Sue Graham officiating. Burial will be in DePue Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the DePue First Congregational United Church of Christ.
