Schwab makes SBA homecoming

PERU — Former St. Bede Bruin Alec Schwab will make a homecoming to the Academy with Illinois Valley Community College when it holds its annual alumni basketball game on Wednesday.
The game — matching IVCC’s current team vs. an alumni squad — will bring Schwab home to the Academy where he starred from 2008-11. As a freshman at IVCC, Schwab was second-team All-Region IV and second-team Arrowhead Conference, averaging 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2.4 steals a game.
Other Eagle returnees include guard Michael Murray of Princeton, Stephen Christopherson of LP, Nick Finney of Washington, JoVonn Griffin of Lisle, and 6-6 forward Josh Fenoglia of Midland.
Newcomers include Ross Arteaga of Mendota, Malcolm Foster of Elizabethtown, Ky., Corey McCrary of Chicago, Sam Ford of DeKalb, Connor Leffelman of Amboy, Kevin Harris of Indianapolis, Ind., and 6-9, 300-pound center Perry Adams of Madison. Ford played last year for national power Highland Community College of Freeport. Ben Schmidt of Princeton is the team manager.
Gametime is at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations for the Illinois Valley United Way will be appreciated.
IVCC women’s fundraiser: The Illinois Valley Community College women’s basketball team will host a chicken dinner fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Rip’s Tavern, Ladd. Tickets are $7 each. For more information, call coach Pat Cinotte at (815) 228-6164.
