Regional Champs!
MOLINE — The Princeton Tiger soccer team brought home the regional championship Saturday outlasting the host Rock Island Alleman Pioneers and Mother Nature Saturday at the Alleman Athletic Complex.
The Tigers posted a 3-1 win to take the regional crown in contest played on and off through heavy rain to advance to sectional semifinal play Tuesday at Mendota.
The Tigers took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Jacob Estrada (Brody Hunt assist) and Dylan Schaefer.
The Pioneers struck in the second half, but PHS senior defender Austen Stewart sealed the win off a free kick with 6:19 to play.
PHS will face Hinckley-Big Rock at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Mendota. HBR was a 2-0 winner over Somonauk at Aurora.
IHSA State Golf: Saturday's finals of the IHSA stateboys golf sites at Bloomington and Normal were canceled with Friday's 18 holes standing up as finals.
IHSA Sectional tennis: Saturday's semifinals of the Ottawa Sectional were postponed to Monday. PHS junior Jen O'Neil has qualified for state, but is playing for sectional positioning.
