Schultz, Mautino complete first round at state

Hall’s Pete Mautino and Princeton’s Hunter Schultz were split between two Twin City golf courses around Bloomington-Normal Friday, but both had one goal in common - land a medal from IHSA state golf finals.

Class 1A at Prairie Vista Golf Course, Bloomington: Mautino, a junior, finished the first round at state with an 84 (12 over), good for a tie for 57th place. Starting off the back 9, he had a couple of pars (4 and a 3), but triple-bogeyed the par 4 No. 14 hole. Nick McCall, a senior from Winnetka North Shore Country Day, stands atop the leaderboard with a 2-under 70.

Class 2A at D.A. Weibring Golf Club, ISU, Normal: Schultz, a senior, came in at 89 through his first day of competition, good for 80th overall. He had a 47 (12 over) on the back 9 and finished with a 42 (6 over) on the front side. Normal U-High senior Adam Barcani was the first round leader with a 1-over 72.
