Dorothy Griffin

SHEFFIELD — Dorothy U. Griffin, 93, of Princeton, formerly of Sheffield, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.

Dorothy Underwood was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Concord Township, Bureau County, the daughter of William Albert and Eva Blanche (Holmes) Underwood. She graduated from Buda High School in 1936. Dorothy married Archie Griffin on June 8, 1940, in Keosaqua, Iowa. He died on Feb. 21, 1984.

Dorothy was a member of the Sheffield United Church of Christ and Sheffield American Legion Auxiliary 415. She was a former volunteer at the LaSalle Veterans Home and Greenfield Home in Princeton. She loved to walk and read.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a special great-great-niece, Meghann Hasbrook. Dorothy is also survived by several cousins and second cousins.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hopeland Cemetery, Buda, with the Rev. Jane Courtright officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to Hopeland Cemetery or the Sheffield United Church of Christ.
