The Heritage Corridor Community Associates will have the opportunity to hear a lecture given by Inigo Manglano-Ovalle, a conceptual artist who works across media to create immersive works that often challenge the notions of the political and cultural, on Nov. 8. Manglano-Orvalle is an American artist, born in Spain and graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently he is a professor at Northwestern University. In this program he discusses his recent works regarding the inversion of utopia, the fabrication of war and the hypersonic re-entry of Modernism. Manglano-Orvalle has exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago. He has also exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Chicago, the Whitney Museum in New York and Documenta, which is an exhibition of modern art in Kassel, Germany. Following the lecture, members and guests will have lunch at the Polo Café and then tour the Bridgeport Art Center which showcases paintings, sculpture, photography, fabric, jewelry and woodworking. It is located in the former Spiegel Catalog Warehouse and is the home to many artists’ studios, designers and professional people as well as being an art gallery. The Heritage Corridor Community Associates are committed to strengthening the Art Institute’s reputation as a world-class art museum. HCCA is always seeking new members.
