Annual toy drive

PRINCETON — American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will conduct its seventh annual toy drive for the less fortunate children in the area. New, unwrapped toys for children age 1 to 12 years may be dropped off at the Legion Post Home vestibule at 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton anytime during the day. Halloween party

OHIO — The Ohio Public Library will have a Halloween party at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the library. There will be fun, food and activities for participants, as well as a costume contest for the spookiest, prettiest and best homemade costumes.

Bake sale

PRINCETON — The Tri-County Humane Society will have a bake sale at 9 a.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply in Princeton.

Annual soup supper

PRINCETON — American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will hold its 10th annual soup supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the post home, 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton. The menu will include homemade vegetable and chili soups with condiments, relishes, desserts and beverages. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for ages 10 and under. There will be a 50/50 raffle and the veteran-made red poppies will be available for donations also. This is a major fundraiser for the Unit.

Review course

SPRING VALLEY — Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library, will offer a free Rules of the Road review course from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at the library, 215 E. Cleveland St., Spring Valley. The purpose of the course is to help participants pass the Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. The course prepares applicants for the general written and road examinations, and also provides information on the vision screening.

Pancake breakfast

PRINCETON — The Princeton Veterans Group will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Nov. 18. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for ages 4-12, and available from any member of American Legion Post 125, VFW Post 4323, AMVETS Post 180 and at the door. The menu will include pancakes, sausages, eggs, applesauce, beverages and something new this year, individual servings of dry cereal. Active duty military and first responders in uniform will be admitted free to the breakfast. This is a major fundraiser for the group.

Fall concert

LASALLE — The Illinois Valley Youth Symphony will present its fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Mattheissen Auditorium of LaSalle-Peru High School. This will be the first IVYSO with new co-conductor David Lee. Music students in the IVYSO from all over the Illinois Valley have prepared a wonderful concert including music from “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Orpheus in the Underworld.” Tickets, available at the door, are $7 for adults, $5 for students/seniors.

Breakfast planned

LAMOILLE — The LaMoille Lions Club will serve an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lions Club, 308 Howard St. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, ham, toast, milk, juice and coffee. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10. Proceeds will benefit the Music Boosters.
