Saturday sports update

Bureau Valley's Regan Weidner and Ryan Taylor advanced to the IHSA State Cross County Meet running out of the Oregon Class 1A Sectional Saturday.

Weidner was second in the girls' race behind El Paso-Gridley's Julie James (18:57.55) with a time of 19:04.4. Rock Falls was the team champion.

Taylor placed 11th in the boys' race, clocking a 16:41.79. Ethan Adlfinger of team champion Rock Island Alleman won the race with a time of 15:52.68. The Bureau Valley boys placed ninth and Hall was 10th.

IHSA Football Playoffs

Amboy/LaMoille rolled to a 36-12 win over North Shore Country Day in Saturday's 2A opener.

St. Bede fell to host Monmouth-Roseville 40-27 in 3A.

In other Saturday playoff games

Annawan/Wethersfield beat Watseka 28-14 and Aledo Mercer County beat Morrison 25-14 in 2A.

Sterling Newman beat Erie/Prophetstown 21-6 in 3A.

Geneseo beat Sandwich 17-0 in 4A.

Ottawa beat Normal 38-17 in 6A.
