Mr. and Mrs. Gene Schlindwein of 20605 425 East St., Sheffield, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Tuesday with a family dinner.

Gene Schlindwein and the former Peggy Schwigen were married Nov. 8, 1952, in Visitation Church in Kewanee. They are the parents of three children, Gene Jr., Mark E. and Dorothy. They also have seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gene was a union carpenter all of his working years, retiring at the age of 49 as president of the District Council of Carpenters in Rock Island. Peggy owned and operated Peg’s Upholstery in Sheffield for 20 years with customers as far away as Georgia and Florida. The couple will leave Nov. 10 for their home in Brownsville, Texas, for the winter.
