Annual Christkindl Market set for Nov. 17

PRINCETON — The fourth annual Christkindl Markt (German Christmas Market) will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Open Prairie United Church of Christ, 25 E. Marion St. (behind the Apollo Theater) in Princeton. It has become a popular feature of the Princeton Main Street Christmas Walk.

The event offers unique hand-crafted gifts, traditional German treats and an international cookie bazaar featuring 36 varieties of cookies from 27 countries. Children are invited to decorate and take home their very own gingerbread house at “The Gingerbread House,” the market’s free children’s activity.

Speciality chocolates and caramels, ceramics, original photography, and hand-sewn and hand-knitted gifts are among the local artisans’ offerings at this year’s market. Shoppers can also purchase Advent wreaths and other holiday greens as well as traditional German Advent calendars (sold by the Princeton High School German Club). Open Prairie will be selling fair trade coffees and chocolates and frozen homemade entrees (breakfast casseroles and lasagnas) to be kept on hand for holiday guests.
