CHERRY — The Lady Comets of Cherry Grade School have certainly lived up to their nicknames the past three basketball seasons. They’ve been streaking.

The Lady Comets finished the 2012 season on a streak, now 60-0 in conference play over the past three seasons with the A and B teams records combined, along with three straight Prairie Conference championships. They were 14-0 for the A team and 3-0 for the Bs this season.

Coach Ryan Luecke said he has a special group of girls because of the way they bought into his coaching philosophy that defense and rebounding wins games.

“They play hard every night and work hard at every practice. It’s a blessing to be able to coach a group of girls who are so dedicated, hard working, that listen, who want to learn and play team basketball,” Luecke said. “We don’t really have a star that we go to every night; it is a total team effort. I am truly thankful to have been a part of this team for the last three years and plan on being there for many more.”

This year’s team members include eighth-graders Jenna Lusietto, Abby Hoscheid and Hunter Galassi, seventh-graders Madison Soldati, Courtney Kobold and Christina Muncy, sixth-graders Jazmine Abbey and Payton Kerper, fifth-graders Rachael Kobold, Hayleigh Brokaw and Avery Lamis, and fourth-graders Kaitlyn Donovan, Olivia Lamis and Tatum Hahn.

The A Team beat Deer Park and then Dimmick in the championship game of the Prairie Conference tournament. The Lady Comets also won the Holy Family Tournament, defeating Henry, Trinity Catholic and Peru Catholic.
